Yale University
What could be more Americana than the Ivy League's second oldest, Yale University? Founded in 1701 as The Collegiate School of Connecticut, the struggling college was named after Elihu Yale, govna' of the East India Trading Company, who donated some books and supplies to help out the school and thus becoming the namesake (Historians, however, attribute the success of the University not to Elihu Yale but to one Jeremiah Dummer. Let's be honest though: naming it Dummer College… well it's probably not the best branding strategy for a new school). Yale, throughout the centuries, has captured the American imagination: it's beauty, it's romance, and it's scholarly pursuits to name a few. And that's why here at 1883 Clothing Co., we love Yale for it's aesthetics, we love Yale for its academic prowess, and we love Yale for it's fun traditions: a good old game of Bladderball (we're hoping they'll bring that back permanently, but if not, we'll see you at Spring Fling!), the ubiquitous Handsome Dan (especially at The Game), and of course the residential college system (1883 is completely neutral as to which ones are and are not the best!). Yale certainly is at once a tradition, a company of scholars, and a society of friends.
